Rather than using seed, some plants are better propagated by the method of rooting. There are many vegetable and fruits that can quickly and easily be produced by this method. Watermelon is often one plant that producers root for commercial purposes. The benefits are getting identical varieties as the original plant.
In the picture shown to the left is an example of a self rooting sweet potato. When this piece is cut off and replanted it produces sweet potatoes in an identical variety as its mother plant. Using these cuttings saves money on cost for purchasing new plants and time for transportation and naturalization of growth.
